I love Waxing!

by Christina Jones on May 3rd, 2006

I have been a die-hard waxer for a lot of years now. I have used many different waxing product lines and methods over the years - and there are quite a few out there. Of course, working in a salon, there was always the wax in the electric warmer, in the waxing room that was available. That is the best way, with a dedicated setup - it is easy and contains the mess in one area. That, to me, is the biggest drawback to home waxing - rarely do you have a good place to do it. At home I have used the electric warmer (always a sticky mess to keep around the house), and the microwavable wax (can never get the lid back on once you have used it once) and most recently the One Touch Personal Roll On Waxer (shown here). This was almost the perfect waxing solution. There is almost no mess - no dripping - the problem with it, is that the wax doesn’t stay hot enough to work with for very long - you really need to set it back in the warmer in between strips, which is a sticky pain in the rear. But not nearly as bad as the others I mentioned above.

I now, however, have found the perfect at home waxing solution - Parissa Quick & Easy Wax Strips! They are truly amazing, and completely mess and stickiness free. I cannot tell you how impressed I am with these. I have only tried the large strips for legs and body, but I am picking up the small ones for face and bikini at my next opportunity. These are truly awesome. They are packaged two strips pressed together, you put them between your hands for a moment to warm them up a bit, and then peel the two strips apart. Both strips have wax on them. Then, all you have to do is put them on your leg, smooth them down with several strokes of your hand in the direction of hair growth, and then just zip them off. I do it while I am sitting on the couch. There is NO mess. The strips are packaged with a little bottle of azulene oil, that you can use to get any little bits of sticky wax that are left on your body. And this oil works. I have used many a “wax remover” that didnt remove a darned thing. This one does. Fast and thoroughly. Amazing. For $10.99 (at drugstore.com) you get 16 strips (8 “sandwiches”) and with each strip, you can place it about 6 times or so before it stops picking up hairs. Did I mention these are amazing?

I really have a good bit more to say about the hows and whys of waxing, but I will save that for another post. :) Happy waxing!

I’m going to pick these up for a little vacation trip that I have scheduled for next week.

I’ve never done home waxing before — always went to a salon. But that gets pretty expensive, and then I revert to shaving — which I hate.

These strips sound convenient enough that even I can do it!

They are great Mary Jo - they really are. I was SO impressed by them. You can wax anywhere now, no big deal. :) Let me know what you think - and make sure your hairs are grown out pretty good - like any other wax, they need to be on the longish side for the best results.

I’m with you sister, but I -hit the spa- because my experience with Parissa didn’t -hit the spot-. I found them to leave a sticky residue, but they did grab the hair nicely.

Plus for serious hair removal (a la Brazil) you need more than the provided strips. Girl from Ipanema is my schema!

These had a nice write-up in this month’s Allure, too. I’ve been using the Sally Hansen ’sandwich’ wax strips recently and they work…ok, I suppose. However, between the Allure press and your glowing review here, now I can’t wait to run out and buy these to try!

Heidi - they left absolutely no residue on me. You might try just a very slight sprinking of baby powder on your skin. I think I have enough dry skin that it just pulled it right off with the hair. The baby powder thing might just work for you. And LOL on the Girl from Ipanema - you are a more brave woman than I!!

Corinneyb - I saw that write up - I hope you like them as much as I did - I was so excited when I used them and they actually worked. My husband thought I was nuts. ;) Although he often does…

Thanks so much for the comments, both of you! :)

I have never waxed my legs before (only eyebrows). Does this one box take care of both legs entirely? How long before you find that your hair is growing back?

Bikini area..does that hurt? ouch. Although I think I want to give it a try.

Hi- good to see you!! Yes, one box should take care of a first time leg wax completely. As you keep doing it, you dont have as much hair to wax the next times (due to the cycles of hair growth, and less hair growth in general), so a full box should easily take care of at least 2 rounds of waxing. I wax my hairy arms (ick), and did a touch up round last night, and used 2 strips (one sandwich), so I could get up to 8 waxings for my arms out of one box. Quite a bit less expensive than the salon, and I can’t tell you how much nicer this is than messing with hot wax pots and strips of muslin in your house. BIG improvement!!

  • eBeautyDaily - The Beauty Blog - Sugaring vs. Waxing
    May 12, 2006 at 9:05 am

[…] I first tried sugaring in the day spa where I worked for several years, and it really works just as well as hot wax, with minimal fuss. Sugaring at home is a little different process, but for the most part works just as well. Now, I have to say, that sugaring solves all of the classic problems with waxing - no burning yourself, and no permanent spots of wax on your clothes, counters, floors…but it does lack the ease of the Wax Strips I talked about last week. I am sticking with my original analysis that those are the greatest invention since - well, since my favorite pore sucking machine. But, if you need an alternative to the wax strips, Parissa also makes a very nifty sugaring kit as well. An easy to manipulate, palm sized ball of sugar that you roll onto your skin. This is as easy as this method gets, and this Parissa kit sells for $19.95 at drugstore.com. Hair removal, Parissa sugar, Parissa wax strips, sugaring, waxing Add to:                      […]

Oh my God I cannot take the pain of waxing especially on myself. Too painful!

That’s why for all my leg hair removal needs I prefer to dry shave.

No pain, no nicks and no cuts … oh did I say no pain. hehe

Nice blog and thanks for the info.

    Cheers.

are the parissa wax strips ok for using on the upper lip? because it will be my first time trying and i’m scared i’ll damage my skin i wanted 2 try parissa because most people that wrote reviews on nair and veet wax were left with burnt skin and scarring mayb that’s just because they misread instructions but i didn’t wanna risk it and this stuff looks so much better either way but if any1 has tried it on their upper lip please let me know if it worked out ok

For cleaning leftover wax, the best is Nivea Original lotion. Lather on waxed area and wipe off with paper towels.
